Monali Thakur, Anuv Jain to Ritviz: Artists Who Successfully Built Identities Beyond Bollywood

Indian musical artists have evolved far beyond Bollywood to define new sound of the country. And ever since this happened, Hindi music has never felt more diverse! Here’s looking at artists who pushed themselves beyond Bollywood to create independent music.

Monali Thakur: The voice behind Moh Moh Ke Dhaage, Sawaar Loon, Cham Cham and more, Monali Thakur also likes to be known beyond her identity as a Bollywood singer. Recently, she unveiled ‘Butterflies’, featuring Nai Milna Ve, Piya/ I Wanna?and Butterflies itself – an independent musical that has won hearts for serving fun, flirtatious and lighthearted tracks that capture the very fragments of emotions – and it worked!

Prateek Kuhad: Prateek Kuhad is best known for making independent music in Hindi and English, and enjoys a genuine fanbase, especially for his beloved tracks including Co2, Kasoor, Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, Tum Jab Paas and others.

Anuv Jain: Anuv Jain, who serves simple chorded songs with lyrics that deal with love and heartbreak, has been ruling hearts lately. Some of his latest hits include Husn, Alag Aasmaan, Baarishein, Arz Kiya Hai and they have found a niche within the young audience.

Ritviz: Ritviz, known for blending traditional Indian classical melodies with electronic dance music beats, has dominated the hearts of the audience with his classic chartbusters including Liggi, Udd Gaye, Aaj Na, Sage, Khamoshi, and others.

King: King struck gold with his classic track. Maan Meri Jaan, a romantic single that touched hearts nationwide and established him as an even stronger musical sensation. In addition to this, he is also best known for Ghumshudaa, Tu Aake Dekh Le, Oops and Pablo among others.

Raghav Chaitanya: Having started off from YouTube, Raghav Chaitanya has come far enough to serve memorable Bollywood tracks including Tum Se, Ek Tukda Dhoop, Mashooqa and more. And even beyond this, the singer had also gained an incredible fanbase and love for releasing romantic medleys on his YouTube channel.

Anumita Nadesan: Celebrated for her soulful voice and digital artistry, Anumita Nadesan is an indie artist who began learning Carnatic music at the age of six and has also experimented with Hindustani classical music. Some of the recent hits include Tenu Sang Rakhna, Katputli Ke Dhaage, Ahista and Khwaab.
